About Ujam Records

The Ujam of Ujam Records is a contraction for Ujamma, a principle of Kwanzaa and the Kiswahili word meaning cooperative economics. I founded Ujam Records as a means of empowering independent artists.

In an era where major labels not only control artist promotion, but also artist development, I felt it was essential to allow artists to control their own spiritual, intellectual and musical growth.
